Zaragoza, 8-9 November 2010 - Child health in Europe, The IDEFICS Study

The IDEFICS Study is an EU Project whose main objective is the primary prevention of obesity in children. Twenty six partners from ten European countries are working together in order to try to understand why obesity develop in children.  The first cross sectional survey was conducted in eight European countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden) during 2007 – 2008.  An intervention was also performed in the specific areas.

The Symposium: “Child Health in Europe.  The IDEFICS Study: Towards a better understanding of Obesity” will be held in Zaragoza next November 8th and 9th 2010. The IDEFICS Partners will present by the first time the results of the first cross sectional study. Obesity and related Metabolic risk factors for children in Europe will be described. Biological and environmental risk factors for Obesity development will be analyzed focusing on nutrition behavior and food preferences, physical activity and physical fitness.

Young researchers will have the opportunity to present papers both in poster and oral format and to discuss them with outstanding scientist from all over the world. The Symposium, together with a previous workshop, will be an opportunity to interact with scientist involved in different European funded projects (IDEFICS, HELENA, EURRECA, ENERGY, TOY BOX and others). Participants will also explore future opportunities for international cooperation.

We will be happy to host in Zaragoza scientist, physicians and other health professionals interested in the field of pediatric obesity. We hope we will contribute to the fight against this important public health problem.
